Blessings, Therapy, and Purpose

“Soapmaking is your therapy and you should keep doing it.” My husband spoke matter-of-factly during a conversation about the future of my business several weeks ago. You see, Mossy’s Milk Soapery doesn’t generate a lot of income and I was trying to figure out if we should shut it down or ramp it up. My brain is focused when I’m planning, designing, researching, developing, making, packaging, and setting the products on the shelf. But, once there, things stop. Yes, I go to markets and events where I meet lovely people that purchase soap, lotion, and bath bombs. We have fun conversations about the process, ingredients, and goats resulting in some fabulous friends. However, there is something missing.

Now, I’ve ruminated on that statement for a long week. Thought all around it. It’s not just about milking goats and making soap – though I do that. It’s not just about helping you intentionally create personal wellness by having clean skin using colorful and fun, yet wholesome products – though that’s our mission. If it’s my therapy to make the products, how can the products become a blessing for someone else? How can I fulfill that purpose? There it is. The piece that is missing. Purpose. During a recent, wonderful reunion weekend, we answered a call to do something more than just sell soap. A portion of our products will go to women veterans in crisis.

Starting in Oklahoma, we are seeking out organizations that assist women veterans in crisis (preferably not-for-profit ones) to support. If you know of an organization assisting women veterans with ptsd, domestic recovery, homelessness, injury recovery, transition, or professional development, please recommend them to us.

Want to help us get products to women veterans? Pay it forward by making a donation in the amount of your choosing via our online store. We will hold the funds in a special account until recipients are identified. We’ll then purchase products using funds from the account and add those products to the ones we are already sending. (This is not a tax deductible donation.) Watch our socials and website. We’ll also let you know when and how to help in specific situations.
